- Manage60+ MySQL and MS SQLdatabase instances spanning 40+ servers
- Set up new MySQL database instances as dictated by new and changing business requirements
- Perform or coordinate database backup/restore operations as appropriate
- Perform database version upgrades as necessary
- Recommend reconfiguration and/or upgrade of database servers
- Monitor production MySQL instances and maintain infrastructure for facilitating ongoing automated database/server monitoring, statistics gathering, and alerting
- Work in concert with development teams to facilitatedatabase performance optimization, including minimization of space complexity, optimization of application queries, and proper choice of indexes
- Work in concert with development teams to design proper database schemata that are aligned with business application requirements, are inherently robust, follow appropriate relational database design principles including, but not limited to, level of normalization, and that strike a balance between integrity and performance
- Perform database schema changes and data mass updates as requested by development teams and approved and scheduled by management. Enforce controls when structural or behavioral change is introduced to database instances
- In a timely manner, communicate to management and other interested parties all significant production and non-production issues related to the Company’s managed database instances
- Perform data archive activities and maintain related infrastructure to support establisheddata retention policies
- 5+ years MySQL database administration experience in a high-volume transactional environment
- Experience in high volume MySQL database administration
- Experience with MySQL replication (multi-master, master-slave)
- Experience with High Availability architectures (LVS, heartbeat)
- Experience withdatabasebackup and recovery
- Have broad knowledge ofperformance optimization techniques and be skilled in applying them
- Experience in administration of both InnoDB and MyISAM table types
- Possess excellent MySQL troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
- Strong communication skills for interaction with other teams and departments
- Experience with Linux/x86_64 server administration (network, storage, file system, memory and performance)
- Ability to write utility scripts in Perl and/or other scripting language that are of good quality and reliable, and can comprehend existing Perl and PHP scripts
- Understanding of SAN architecture and basic ability to configure its connectivity, storage, and features a plus
- Experience in developing web based applications a plus
- Experience with Percona Xtradb engine a plus
