Safety /Environ. Specialist I-III at Henderson

Recommend and implement measures to insure compliance with all local, state, and federal occupational health, safety and environmentalrequirements. Evaluate, recommend and oversee implementation of control measures for physical and chemical hazards. Develop an ongoing safety process and program that supports Hendersons goals and objectives. Conduct incident investigations and follow-up on findings to ensure mitigation of hazards. Monitor and coordinate disposal of industrial process waste products. Direct department hazardous waste disposal and hazardous waste storage areas. Monitor process waste streams and ensure effluent specifications are met. Ensure compliance with RCRA regulations and hazardous waste standards. Maintain Continuous Emission Monitoring system and direct performance stack testing. Manage landfill for optimal use and permit compliance. Function is: 50% Safety, 50% Environmental:

  • Conduct field observations to insure compliance with company polices and safety regulations.
  • Ensure emergency response preparedness, equipment and assist with training and drills.
  • Develop and manage an effective, regulatory compliant material safety data sheep program (SDS).
  • Assist with over-sight of health and safety programs mandated by OSHA, DOT, and DIR.
  • Assist in safety compliance & other safety activities as required.
  • Over-sight of PPE garment program.
  • Determine and quantify employee exposure to flammables, toxics, corrosives, reactives, dust, fumes, heat, noise, and radiation and recommend corrective measures.
  • Develop procedures, policies, and practices to comply with new and changing employee health legislation.
  • Assist NV CAPP program and compliance.
  • Manage employee safety recognition programs.
  • Inspect and log effluent systems during daily rounds and remediate problems that are out of specifications.
  • Monitor instrumentation of effluent systems and ensure equipment operational.
  • Perform daily perimeter inspection for unauthorized dumps and spills.
  • Direct hazardous waste activities including maintenance of storage area, collect samples of waste for analysis, dispose of waste, and maintain hazardous waste manifests.
  • Collect groundwater samples and prepare them for analysis and interpret results based on applicable regulations.
  • Collect random samples as required and interpret results based on applicable regulations.
  • Organize, store record, and maintain all pertinent data used for environmental compliance.
  • Assist production personnel with their removal and/or disposal of industrial and hazardous waste products to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of state/federal regulations relating to employee health, safety, environmental, industrial hygiene, DOT and emergency response. 2- or 4-year degree in safety, environmental,industrial hygiene, engineeringrelated field or equivalent work experience.

    Minimum but not Mandatory: 1-3 years industrial hygiene/safety/envir. experience

    Preferred: 5 years industrial hygiene/safety/envir. experienceComputer skills in Excel, Windows, Microsoft Office Professional: various types of information for employee exposure monitoring; working knowledge of spirometer and audiometric testing equipment. Fax and other office equipment. Compliance with all OSHA, NDEP, EPA, DOT, CAPP and DIRstandards.
