Job Description

JOB DUTIES: Responsible for installation, test, maintenance, and field installation of real-time embedded microprocessor based data acquisition and control systems. Fabricate and assemble printed circuit boards, subassemblies, interface cabling, and chassis to form microprocessor based instrumentation systems. Troubleshoot using wiring diagrams, schematics and test equipment. Must be able to assist engineering staff, and from customer provided and locally generated requirements, implement solutions with a combination of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and custom hardware. Individual will perform diagnosis of equipment malfunctions and effect repairs to restore equipment to required operating condition. The technician should also be able to troubleshoot and repair to the component level on various VME circuit cards, various types of modules, and COTS hardware using test procedures, diagnostic software, and test equipment such as an oscilloscope, serial data protocol analyzer, and other designated test equipment. He/she will be responsible for installation, setup, and documentation of instrumentation units through project completion. Interface with appropriate agencies to obtain necessary services at field locations will be necessary. Perform as a team player or team leader on system projects. Provide guidance and training to outside agencies, O&M, and lower level technicians. The technician must interface directly with customer personnel and be able to work in team-oriented, as well as, unsupervised environments. Work is performed primarily in an office; however routine field support will be required. Performance of the above mentioned activities would require knowledge in the proper use of tools, surface mount soldering and de-soldering tools, various types of test equipment, and diagnostic tools. The technician will also be required to perform additional duties as required or requested. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate from an accredited two-year technical school with courses in Math and Basic Theory and a minimum of 3 years work experience with emphasis on digital disciplines. Background in general electronics with emphasis in microprocessor based digital systems and fabrication/installation skills. Knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP networks. Good understanding of electronic theory and test equipment used to maintain electronic equipment. Experience with a combination of digital/analog systems installation, testing, and troubleshooting. Able to troubleshoot in-house built hardware and COTS standard bus hardware to the component level and make repairs as needed. Position requires walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, lifting up to 40 pounds and occasional overnight support as required. Must have a current valid drivers license and be able to obtain a TS/SSBI Security Clearance. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Possess experience in a directly related field of microprocessor system technical support and integration. Good understanding of data communication, transmissions and various protocols. Experience in Orcad, Altium, Visio, and other design tools for documentation assistance. Experience using MS Office software applications. Current Department of Defense TS/SSBI Security Clearance.
