ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION:

Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Nevada Skies Youth Wellness Center in Wadsworth, NV (approximately 30 miles east of Reno, NV).

POSITION DETAILS: 

Salary Range:

GS-09, $55,413 - $67,878 per annum

GS-11, $67,047 - $82,131 per annum

GS-12, $78,355 - $96,436 per annum

Travel Required: No

Supervisory/Managerial Position: Yes, may serve 1 year supervisory probationary period.

Relocation Expenses Paid? No, travel expenses WILL NOT be paid; however a bonus may be offered.

Serve as the Supervisory Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for an adolescent residential treatment center:

  • Supervise a staff of Psychiatric Clinical Nurses and Psychiatric Practical Nurses.
  • Plan, direct, or coordinate nursing services for a residential treatment center, contributing to the program planing and implementation of substance abuse and mental health services for Native American youth.
  • Provide diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic nursing care as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Provide mental health service such as crisis evaluations, psychiatric medication management, arrange admissions or transfers of clients to psychiatric hospitals or other facilities.
  • Determine if adolescent clients meet medical requirements for admission.  Serve as an independent provider on site.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: All Nurse Practitioner applicants must meet all of the BASIC REQUIREMENTS listed below:

  • Education - Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed.  Masters Degree from a Nurse Practitioner program or other nursing field is highly desirable; AND
  • Licensure - Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; AND
  • Certification - Certification by the appropriate certifying body as a Nurse Practitioner (Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, etc.) as prescribed by the IHS Licensure Policy.

  • ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must meet the following experience requirement in order to be considered at the GS-09 level and above:

    GS-09: Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements qualify for positions at this grade level:

    • Completion of a Masters Degree in Nursing or 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.); OR
    • 1 full year of work experience as a certified nurse practitioner equivalent to the GS-07 level providing professional nursing services in a health care setting; OR
    • A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above.

    GS-11: Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements qualify for positions at this grade level:

    • Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g. teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.); OR
    • 1 full year of work experience as a certified nursing practitioner equivalent to the GS-09 level providing professional nursing care to patients in an assigned area in accordance with established polices and procedures; OR
    • A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above.

    GS-12: 1 full year of work experience as a certified nurse practitioner equivalent to the GS-11 level serving as primary and/or specialized care provider, providing a blend of nursing and psychiatric care services to patients and families.  Work with an interdisciplinary treatment team that provided a therapy-oriented program for patients with mental health and/or substance abuse needs.  Leadership, supervisory, or administrative experience directing a nursing team, unit, or department ensuring the operation runs effectively and follows accreditation guidelines (i.e., The Joint Commission).
