The work of this position involves transporting sterile medicalsupplies to wards, clinics, operating rooms in medical facility and CBOCse.g., Auburn, Carson Valley, Fallon and Susanville. The work product directly affects the healthof medical and surgical patients.

- This position is temporary - not to exceed one (1) year.
Duties of this position include:
- operate various vehicles including a 5-tonloading/cargo vehicle, and passengertrucks, cars, and vans to pick up and deliver materials and equipment tovarious locations and work sites requiring a Class C license.
- maneuver vehicles over uneven terrain, overimproved or unimproved roads, and through congested areas exercising cautionwhen backing to load or unload at docks, ramps, and similar locations.
- determine the manner and sequence of loadingcargo to achieve load balance and adequate protection for fragile items.
- secure the cargo with tie-down ropes or atarpaulin to prevent shifting.
- check material loaded or delivered againstvarious documents to prevent errors and to certify the condition of the itemsand obtain signatures from receiving personnel.
- distributes items according to establishedrequirements, special requests or as requisitioned.
- fills requests for items based on dailyschedules of needs or on individual requisitions.
- performs daily inventories of wards or unitssupply areas and replenishes the Omni cell to appropriate stock levels.
- consults with customers on items in short supplyor out of stock, recommending possible substitutions.
- sends requested items to wards and clinics viaautomated delivery systems.
- periodically inventories stock.
- maintains records on stock levels and recommendsrevisions in stock levels as the need for supplies changes.
- receives new supplies, checks deliveries forquality, quantity, and price.
- stores items in accordance with inventory systemand assists with inventory.
- anticipates needs through periodic inventory anddiscussion with ward and clinic personnel, maintain stock levels, returnsreusable supplies to the central processing area, and advises clinic and wardpersonnel on new or changed equipment and supplies, current medical supplyresources, turnover time, proper use of equipment, and troubleshootingprocedures, exchanges, inspects, re-supplies and stores equipment and supplyitems insuring that an adequate number are available at all times.
- assembles and loads ward and operating roomcarts according to schedules, and fills special and emergency requests forsupplies.
- performs other related duties as assigned.
This position is covered by the bargaining unit.
The full performance level of this position is WG-06.
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
WORK SCHEDULE: FULL-TIME (40 HOURS PER WEEK)

ResponsibilityDriving proficiency is assessed in terms of safe andexpeditious completion of the assigned job. Driver is responsible for selecting routes and obeying all traffic lawsand safety regulations, as well as the safe loading and unloading of thevehicle. Performance of preventivemaintenance tasks and preparation of trip tickets are reviewed for adequacy andcompliance with instructions.
Physical EffortConsiderable physical effort may be requiredto load or unload the vehicle, change tires and make limited emergency repairs,such as installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse onopen highways. Patient transport vehicledrivers may be required to assist patients into and out of the vehicle, whichinvolves physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending.
WorkingConditions
Drivers work mostly outside and operatevehicles in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment throughouta Government installation or establishment. Drivers are exposed to dirt andfumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result ofaccidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading thevehicle.
