FIELD ENGINEER l - Telecommunications / 1667 at Las Vegas

Position Description:

JOB SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

Performs a variety of fundamental field engineering tasks under close supervision, in the installation, operations, testing and maintenance of electronic equipment and systems.  Work is at an entry level and is generally performed as a member of a project team. 

• Conducts research and reference reading to assist higher-level engineers in obtaining technical information and keeps informed of currently approved standards, codes, and procedures applied to engineering specialty.
• Performs fundamental engineering tasks requiring standard techniques, such as tolerance studies and design calculations.
• Plans and carries out successive engineering steps and resolves technical problems by standard practices and techniques.
• Supports projects with limited scope or parts of more complex projects with detailed instructions on the intent and scope of the documents to be prepared
• Studies currently approved standards, codes, and procedures applied to the engineering specialty.
• Assists in preparation of reports, correspondence or technical studies.
• Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work under a lead engineer to establish, maintain, and operate a comprehensive telephony and IP network test and data acquisition framework.
• Prepare and compile technical information in support of product procurement in compliance with customer specifications.
• Operational readiness testing of telephony and IP network test and data acquisition equipment to assess compliance with established customer requirements and directives.
• Deployment of telephony and IP network test and data acquisition systems, to include establishing material listings of test equipment and support items required to complete field installation milestones.
• Prepare, maintain, and update documentation and drawings for internal and external customers detailing configuration work packages of customer-driven solutions.
• Prepare, document, and maintain system operator procedures and checklists.
• Identify, report, and troubleshoot issues as well as monitor and mitigate fault conditions encountered during system operations.
• Demonstrate good judgment in identifying problems; finding process inefficiencies; and proposing solutions.
• Demonstrated proficiency in fabricating and repairing assorted wire-and-cable assemblies to include Cat5/6, coaxial, and optical interfaces.

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering or formal academic/vocational training or military equivalent and 4 or more years of technical/professional experience in the specialty field. Must have a professional knowledge of applicable engineering concepts and principles, and a familiarity with related engineering fields. Must have a practical knowledge of test methods and practices sufficient to perform relatively routine engineering procedures and to prepare or make minor modifications of standard test procedures or test equipment work instructions.  Must qualify for and maintain a Security Clearance and possess a current state issued driver's license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with operating systems to include Windows, Linux, and Solaris.
• Working knowledge of wireline telephony system architecture and protocols to include T1/E1, ISDN, and SS7.
• Working knowledge of optical transport network system architectures and technologies to include SONET/SDH.
• Working knowledge of wireless telephony system architectures to include GSM, CDMA, UMTS, and LTE as well as essential elements of associated protocol communications.
• Familiar with network protocols and technologies to include Ethernet, TCP/IP, ICMP, and SNMP.
• Experience with installing, configuring, and operating telephony and IP network test and data acquisition equipment.
